 A Front of Female Primary Co-operatives (including youth, people with disabilities and about 20% males)  Came together acknowledging past failures  Guided by the 5th Principle of Cooperatives (Training and Education)  Formally formulated in August 2011and launched at the Tshwane City Hall  Inspired By the Boldness of 1956 Women  Emerged to facilitate Programs that seek to address stagnation within Co-operatives in all Sectors

 DTI  Economic Development  Education  Social Development  SEDA  OLD MUTUAL  Cooperative Practitioners and Advisory Council Members from Kenya and Zimbabwe

To break the cycle of poverty amongst women and their families by 2020 through a critical and viable Cooperative Institute.

To provide a Business Incubator Facility for early stage and start up cooperatives for:  Cooperative Management  Business Management Skills  Technical Skills (Benefitiation,Agro-processing,etc)  Process Management and Quality Control  Business Opportunity Identification  Regular Compliance  Mentorship, Coaching and After-Care Services

 About co-operatives are registered with CIPC  Approximately 2600 are economically viable  Less than 6% of those operational are compliant  Female Membership outnumbers male  Low Survival Rate of Cooperative society

 Governance and Institutional Structures  Leadership and Administrative Issues  Management of Co-operative affairs  Financial Management and Record Keeping  Access to information on finance and other support services  Access to Markets and Competitive forces  Operational and Technical challenges

 Illiteracy  Limited Mentorship Programmes  Lack of Effective Cooperative Institutes  Lack of dedicated units in various departments –  No specific budget for co-operative development

The challenges listed above call for an Institutional Framework which will provide Strategic and Strong Visionary Leadership working alongside Government in supporting co-operatives. THERE IS AN NEED TO SAVE THE NATION FROM ………

 SAWICO supports the conversion of Adult Education and Training Centers into Community Adult Centers.  Community Business Schools are also found throughout the world.  Cooperative Development should also be taken into consideration  SAWICO would like to propose the establishment of Co-operative Institutes with a budget allocation

 Incubation Centres: Long Term and Short Term Programs(Management Skills that includes Financial Skills addressing Personal Budgeting)  Rural Communities : Landbou,Language barriers, recognition of Prior Learning  Domestic Workers/ Gardeners: Primary Health Care, Aupairs, Cooking Lessons - HACCP  People with Disability: ICT, Interpretation, Beauty Care, etc
