Peopling Project By Jonah E. This is my Great-grandpa Louis Kuretzky with my Grandpa Marty Kuretzky.

Historian My Great-grandfather, Louis Kuretzky was born in Toronto. His family immigrated from Russia to Toronto, Canada. My Great-grandfather spoke Russian, Yiddish and Hebrew. But mostly speaks English now.

Historian My Great-grandfather had a lot of family in Toronto but now there is only one person in his family that living there. Toronto is really cold at times like it is in Detroit. My Great- grandfather dad thought it would be a better life in the United States.

Historian When his family left to go to the United States there was no war going on at the time. The month he moved to Detroit was July. In 1925 a loaf of bread cost 5 cents.

Historian In the United States they had almost the same prices as Toronto. My Great-grandfather and his family immigrated to the city of Detroit. When my Great-grandfather immigrated to the United States, Calvin Coolidge was the president.

Economist When Great-grandfather’s dad came to the United States he created a company called Kuretzky Furs. His dad made money by making and selling fur coats. When they got there they had no place to live so they rented a house in the city of Detroit.

Geographer Toronto was a big really city and it still is. When he was in Toronto there was a lot of Jewish people living there. There is a lot of people in Toronto because there are many jobs and businesses.

Geographer They settled around a lot of water because they settled in Michigan. But where they lived they didn’t have a lot of water around them. When he moved there was a lot job openings in the year 1925 because there were manufacturing jobs around the lakes and the Detroit River.

Geographer It took them about two days to come to the United States from Toronto. When they came they lived in the city of Detroit. The way my Great-grandfathers family came to the United States transported was by train.

Political Scientist His family moved to the United States because they thought it would be a good place to live. Another reason he came here was his dad always wanted to live in the United States. When he lived in Toronto my Great- grandfather could not vote because he was to young.

Political Scientist When he was in the United states he already knew English because in Toronto and the United States had similar languages. When he got there he didn’t have to change his name to fit in. He went to school from kindergarten through twelfth grades in the United States. SPOKE
