2-D and Plane Figures

Polygon

A polygon is a closed plane figure made up of straight line segments. Can you name a polygon?

Triangle

A polygon with three sides. Tri means 3

Quadrilateral

A polygon with four sides. Quad means 4

Square

A quadrilateral with four equal sides Can you find a square in this room?

Rectangle

A quadrilateral that opposite sides are congruent (equal). Opposite sides are equal

Rhombus

A quadrilateral with opposite sides parallel, and all sides the same length. Tilted square

Parallelogram

A quadrilateral in which opposite sides are parallel.

Trapezoid

A quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides.

Pentagon

A polygon with five sides.

Hexagon

A polygon with six sides.

Octagon

A polygon with eight sides.

Decagon

A polygon with ten sides.

Angles

A figure formed by two rays that have the same end point.

Acute

An angle that measures less than 90 degrees.

Obtuse

An angle that measures more than 90 degrees.

Right

An angle that measures exactly 90 degrees. This angle forms a square corner.
