SACRED COWS By: Janet Morales Writing 01 Sec. 42 Ms. Ayik

DEPENDING ON THE COW

OVER POPULATED INDIA India's population has estimation of 1.27 million people and shares their air with 280 million cows. Hindus view the cows as sacred like the Christians see the sheep. Since the year After Jesus Christ it has been illegal to sell or eat a cow because it is against the Hindus religion. Hindus traditionally asks priest to bless their cow when they are born and consider it a family member after. The worshipping of the sacred cows causes devastating consequences for the people and the environment in India.

OVER POPULATED INDIA CONTINUED Almost all of India’s residents comprehend and adjust to Hindus culture by respecting the living cows. India cannot ignore how congested it is living with cows and has tried to solve the conflict by not disrespecting Hindus decision to worship the cows. Every family owns a cow and unfortunately some Hindus must sell their cattle in order to get money. Happily once a year the Gopastami festival occurs.

SECOND MOTHER FOR HINDUS Hindus understand that the law is not powerful enough to protect all the cows and not enough people understand the high quality of a cow. Mahatma Ghandi was an influential man that made individuals realize they could profit from maintaining a cow well-taken care of. Hindus adapted to the resources given from their cow and were more than willing to share with their neighbors. Milk, fuel (dung), ghee( vegetable oil), and meat Energy is produced from the cow dung Saves money and the soil is rich with nutrients

SECOND MOTHER FOR HINDUS CONT. Hindus could take advantage of the benefits given from the cow and Indian communities should appreciate the cows as asked. The cow symbolizes strength and wealth.

COW SLAUGHTER In March 1994, India established a bill that compromised with the Hindus to ban the selling of cows between the people who continuously assassinate cows. The air is polluted from the death cows and according to the Hindus it is a sin to allow a cow from being tortured. In Kerala and West Bengal cows were recruited from India to received unfair treatment by being turned into a meal.

AFTER EFFECTS Cow consumers are expected to receive karma because the cows gives more than it receives. The cows feed of from the farms, but cows have the liberty to eat what it likes. Cows are allowed to wonder around and can create problems between the community and Hindus.

VEGETARIANS Hindus are less violent because they are not carnivorous. Mahatma Gandhi taught people that violence is not needed to make a point. Riots occur between Muslims and Hindus A cow who is not being taken of could become sick with the bovine spongiform Mad cow disease makes the victim weak

HOLY COWS Cow slaughterers who get caught are punished by serving jail time or might have the mad cow disease, bovine spongiform encephalopathy. Cows that are killed even by accident must a price. Cows that are delivered to designated slaughter house receive unfair treatment.

HINDUS STATES Hindus do not deny any cow from getting worshiped because they are viewed as reliable animals in India. Lost cows are given the opportunity to live their last days in a sheltered home, which is provided with useful life resources. The way Hindus lives life is seemed as taboo to others, but anyone who admires their way of living is trusted to live a healthy life.
