E-Portfolio, ARCP and decision aids. Dr Derek Harrington, Consultant Cardiologist Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust Cardiology TPD HEKSS

E-portfolio - why? What is the value of an e-portfolio? – This is your portfolio – Peer and supervisor feedback – Progress against the curriculum – Personal library – Think about what you need, reflect and PDP This is how an external assessor (and potentially a lawyer) views a trainee

“little and often”

HEKSS process Interim review – 6 months, face to face to discuss training and progress. ARCP – July, virtual process. Face to face only if concerns. Final virtual review August

Outcome 1 = Perfect e-portfolio

How to achieve an ARCP outcome 1 Ensure you have completed the ARCP decision aid requirements for your training year Complete at least the minimum number of WBAs, with different assessors, the majority should be consultants Up to date ES report 4 – 6 MCRs Evidence of progress against the curriculum – At least 3 pieces of evidence Up to date log book in a well organised personal library Remember the assessment is of you via your e- portfolio

How to fail your ARCP

Don’t engage in the process

Get your assessments at the last minute

Get curriculum sign off with insufficient evidence

Trainee A Trainee A is brilliant He arrives for his ARCP with a hand full of WBAs, no curriculum sign off, no ES report What outcome?

Trainee A He does not complete the outstanding assessments The 6 months later he attends ARCP with no ES report or MCR & no evidence of curriculum progress Outcome?

Trainee B Maintains an exemplary e-portfolio Struggles with some of the practical procedures he is learning despite some focused training. Whilst he has multiple DOPs he does not consistently achieve the level required What outcome?

Trainee C Presents an incomplete e-portfolio He is missing a few WBAs and has limited linking the curriculum ES report and MCR suggest he is an able trainee What outcome?

Summary This is your e-portfolio and is a reflection of you. If you are having difficulties contact the HEKSS team and TPD. You cannot pass a ARCP without a perfect e- portfolio. A PYA assessor and ARCP panel will only recommend a CCT if you have all the evidence that you have completed the curriculum.
