Russian Revolution Lenin and the Bolsheviks made Russia a Communist country and change the name of the country to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) or for short, the Soviet Union

The War Ends The Allied Powers win the war. The war leaves almost all of Europe bankrupt. They force Germany to sign the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.

The Treaty of Versailles The 1919 Versailles Treaty, which Germany was kept under blockade until she signed, ended the war. The treaty said: 1. The war was all Germany’s fault. ( War Guilt) 2. Germany had to pay money to the countries it attacked. (Economic Reparations) 3. Germany had to give up a bunch of its land and colonies (Territorial Losses) 4. Germany also had to disarm its military. (Military Restrictions)

The Treaty of Versailles caused Germany to go through a depression a time when businesses and people lost a lot of money a time when businesses and people lost a lot of money

The Treaty of Versailles Germans were also mad because the treaty said that Germany alone caused WWI. Many Germans wanted revenge

How: Demand for U.S. crops plummeted (decreased production) in the late 1920s, farmers begin to lose farms, banks were forced to take heavy losses and close, people panicked and pulled (took out) investments (money) from companies and the stock market crashed (stopped working) in 1929 Who: Many families were forced to live in poverty (poor quality).Young people were forced to leave their families to find work. The National Socialist Party’s leader, Adolf Hitler, was gaining more and more power The National Socialist Party’s leader, Adolf Hitler, was gaining more and more power Rise of Nazism:

Nazi Party As more and more Germans became poor and angry, more and more began joining the National Socialist Party. Before long, the party is very large and it’s leader, Adolf Hitler becomes very powerful. They also change the name of the party to the Nazi Party

Nazi Party 1939 Reichstag appointed Hitler as chancellor. Hitler keeps his promise and immediately puts Germans to work. He refuses to obey the accords of the Treaty of Versailles. The European leaders do not want to fight another war; Hitler uses this against them. He agrees to peace treaties with Allied nations in Europe he never had plans to keep. Prime Minister Neville Chamberlin trusts Hitler’s agreement to peace; history would prove him naïve. Hitler builds the strongest army in the world in a matter of years.

Nazi Party Accomplishments Germany moved to retake lands lost in the Treaty of Versailles. Nazi Germany changed its government’s name from the Weimar Republic to the Third Reich. Hitler wanted to “purify” German lands and made Jews live in ghettos----beginning of the Holocaust. Europe came to the point of war. Many Germans wanted revenge and they trusted Adolf Hitler and the Nazis From , Hitler brought Germany out of depression into all out war!
