What Are We For? Why do we do what we do? To Change the Army to Win in a Complex World To Design, Acquire, and Build the future Army, and to constantly Improve it I want to start today with what TRADOC is for? This is the most important question for any organization. Often what are we for? Gets confused with getting things done. Without a clear understanding what we are for then our actions may not be coordinated or effective- increase artificial overhead Decide what we are for first- our work should be focused on the answer to that question – focus on that helps you grade your work to a clear goal What we are for should drive what we do As the Commanding general says, what we are for is – to change the Army to win in a complex world by designing, acquiring, and building the future Army, then continuing to improve it.

What Are We For? To change the Army to Win in a Complex World Design Acquire Build Improve Research, Analysis, Integration Statistical and Math Analysis Emerging World Trends Soldier and Civilian Recruiting ROTC Cadet Education Basic Training for Enlisted and Officers Institutional Lessons Learned Officer Education Research Senior Sergeants Education Enlisted and Sergeant Career Army Universities and Schools There are many subordinate organizations which achieve TRADOC’s goals of providing trained, ready Soldiers for the Army. The Combined Arms Center (CAC) is responsible for leader, doctrine, and training development. Based at Fort Leavenworth, KS, it oversees the Sergeants Major Academy as well. The Recruiting Command accesses and recruits potential Soldiers for service; Cadet Command recruits, educates, and trains ROTC students to become the future officers of the Army; the Initial Military Training Center of Excellence constantly reviews, improves, and tests education and training theories and plans for both enlisted and officer basic training programs. The Army Capabilities Integration Center (ARCIC) is responsible for developing, testing, and potentially procuring the technologies and capabilities the future Army will need to fight and win the nation’s wars. The eight Centers of Excellence shown here develop branch- and warfighting function-specific doctrine and training concepts for their supported basic branches. They also conduct officer, warrant officer, enlisted, and civilian training for those same supported branches.
