Presentation transcript:

What role do YOU play?

 Patterns in literature found around the world  Certain character types are also archetypal elements of traditional stories  Some critics say that these elements express symbolic truths about the human mind

 Hero – protagonist who begins as a humble, non- heroic character. Conquers obstacles and saves the day! Has some kind of quest.  Villain – The antagonist; works against the hero either through brute strength or cunning.  Mother figure/Father figure/Mentor – Older figures to support and guide the hero.  Underdog – The character not expected to do much, but plays a pivotal role.  Jester – The comic relief.  Rogue – The nice/lovable character that does not always follow the rules.

 Label the following character with their names

 Put the characters into groups, not by which movie they are in, but by what kind of character they are!

 Ask yourself: Why did I group these characters together this way? How do they act in their roles? What do they provide for the story?
