Information support of physical experiments on Nuclotron NEC’2003 Varna, Bulgaria V. Andreev, E. Frolov, B. Sveshnikov., B. Vasilishin., V. Volkov (JINR)

Introduction The Nuclotron program complex Centralized database of main parameters and processes of the Nuclotron operation Web performance and Java technologies Desirable view of the unified Nuclotron program control complex Contents

1. Introduction Work on software developing of the Nuclotron accelerating complex began in 1992 the year before the superconducting synchrotron was put into operation. At present time the developing is in a progress as a part of the Nuclotron Control System.

Introduction Subsystem LAN Ethernet Main Control Room Data Control Front End Level Operator Level General structure of the Nuclotron program complex (NPC) The interaction between the programs of the Front End Level (data acquisition and primary processing) and the programs of the Operator Level (data saving, observing and subsystem control) is carried out by means of Local Area Network Nuclotron LAN is a distributed system which subsystems are on distance up to 400 m from each other

Introduction Subsystem Logical structure of the Nuclotron program complex (NPC) At the same time, we have three functional parts of NPC with separate scopes and fields of tasks unified by the framework of information support : the program complex for data acquisition, saving, processing and observing; the database for saving of main parameters and modes of the accelerator operation; and the set of java-applets for remote browsing of some Nuclotron subsystems processes. Main and auxiliary programs for data acquisition, saving, processing and observing DB Database

2. Nuclotron program complex Information about the processes of most of the NCS subsystems is necessary for the Nuclotron operation and tuning of the accelerating modes Such functions as data acquisition, saving, processing and observing are carried out by the set of programs developed for each Nuclotron subsystem

Nuclotron program complex Subsystem operation The data being received in each accelerator cycle by the Front End Level software application after the primary processing are sent to the file-server or directly to the programs for data observing in the Main Control Room. Front End Level Data acquisition HardwareSoftware CAMAC crates & controllers, IPC, Imbedded PC modules, Single-boarded micro-PC Main program: data acquisition and primary processing Ope- rator Level Data processing HardwareSoftware File & Web-servers, Workstations Auxiliary and control programs: data saving, processing and observing LAN

Nuclotron program complex Nuclotron subsystems It allows operators to observe current processes and the parameters values of such Nuclotron subsystems as: Thermometry The beginning of cooling of the Nuclotron ring

Nuclotron program complex Nuclotron subsystems It allows operators to observe current processes and the parameters values of such Nuclotron subsystems as: Cryogenics Temperature information for all elements

Nuclotron program complex Nuclotron subsystems It allows operators to observe current processes and the parameters values of such Nuclotron subsystems as: Radiation safety Dozes of radiation on the accelerator complex area

Nuclotron program complex Nuclotron subsystems It allows operators to observe current processes and the parameters values of such Nuclotron subsystems as: Magnetic field Magnetic field, voltage and currents in the ring elements

Nuclotron program complex Nuclotron subsystems It allows operators to observe current processes and the parameters values of such Nuclotron subsystems as: Beam injection Injection and first beam turns

Nuclotron program complex Nuclotron subsystems It allows operators to observe current processes and the parameters values of such Nuclotron subsystems as: Slow extraction diagnostics Beam spill and processes in the ESS and resonance lenses of the slow extraction system

Nuclotron program complex Nuclotron subsystems It allows operators to observe current processes and the parameters values of such Nuclotron subsystems as: Slow extraction beam diagnostics Integral and dynamic profiles of the slow extraction beam

Nuclotron program complex Nuclotron subsystems It allows operators to observe current processes and the parameters values of such Nuclotron subsystems as: Magnetic field correction; Beam injection control; Magnetic field control; Circulating beam intensity; Beam position and R-,Z-orbit measuring; Beam losses monitoring; Slow extraction control; Beam diagnostics in the transport channels; Others...

3. The database of main parameters and processes of the Nuclotron operation During the last accelerator run in June-July 2003 the database of main parameters and processes of the accelerator operation was successfully tested The software created for database allows operator to save more than 50 parameters from 6 Nuclotron subsystems

Database Database operation The Database Application located with DBMS (InterBase ® 6.5 Borland ® ) and database on the same workstation allows to save such parameters as accelerator cycle duration, values of the magnetic field plates, field coefficients, currents in correctors and so on Subsystem DB DBMS Database Application Data Server and to perform the search of required saved modes and parameters with observing of main magnetic field. Further it is planned to add the function of subsystem loading by the saved values of parameters from the database for faster and easier accelerator modes tuning PC

4. Web performance and Java technologies At present moment four java-applets are available for access to data from the remote PC through the web interface: It duplicates the observing of such Nuclotron subsystems as thermometry, main magnetic field, beam intensity and slow extraction beam diagnostics

Web performance & Java technologies Nuclotron subsystems Thermometry & Cryogenics Information about the temperatures of all ring elements

Web performance & Java technologies Nuclotron subsystems Main magnetic field Magnetic field, voltage and currents in the ring elements

Web performance & Java technologies Nuclotron subsystems Slow extraction beam diagnostics Beam spill and integral beam profiles

5. Desirable view of the unified Nuclotron program control complex All program applications mentioned above form the unified Nuclotron program complex Testing of the integrated program complex is planned to carry out during the nearest accelerator run

Integrated program complex Structure of the unified program complex The data being received from all Nuclotron subsystems during the accelerator cycle are sent to the file-server for storage or directly to the Main Control Room for observing. Main Control Room DB DBMS Database operation Main Control Program Observing and Control programs LAN File & Web servers Web & Java performance Subsystems Remote PC.. Some data are copied on web-server for remote access through the web-browser. HTTP

Integrated program complex Main Control Program monitoring of the auxiliary programs for data observing and subsystems parameters control; alarm system function: program modules loaded on other workstations are sending the alarm messages with codes of errors and failures in subsystems to the main control The Main Control Program performs: program for automatic voice notification ; saving and loading of the main parameters from the database for accelerating modes tuning. Such integration of the program complex units, database storage abilities and Web and Java technologies will allow to perform the centralized management and easier and faster tuning of the accelerating modes during the accelerator run.
