Presents The Silver Family An Integrated Approach to Processors, Data Communication and Head End Integration

What is in the Silver Family? Processors: OmniTrax and XField Data Communications through common plug-in Auxiliary Cards Network Interface Unit (NIU) Silver Repeater Universal Configuration Module (UCM) Software Network Manager Software Compatible Control and Display Software

Processors: Common Elements (1) Same form factor – Same PCB mounting plate Same enclosure – CSA Type 4, equivalent to NEMA 4 – Painted white aluminium – Interchangeable connector plate on the bottom Backup battery included, 12 Ah, about 24 h of backup 2 supervised inputs (self-test in Standalone Mode) 4 Relay Outputs, Form C, 1.0A at 30 VAC/VDC – Alarm A, Alarm B, Supervision and Fail in Standalone Mode On-board USB connector for connection to laptop running UCM

Processors: Common Elements (2) Microcontroller on board – Manages all housekeeping tasks All volatile parameters are stored in FLASH memory FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) on board – Embedded 32-bit processor – Embedded 32-bit floating point unit Optional Auxiliary Power Supply for other sensors – 12 VDC, 150 mA – Powered by the input power to the processor – Separate module that mounts on the enclosure door along with the backup battery

XField Processor Card

Communications Plug-In Auxiliary Communication Cards – One Plug-In Auxiliary card is needed at each processor when in Network Mode. even applies to OmniTrax when power and data are on the cables – RS-422 Card – Multimode Fiber Optic – Single Mode Fiber Optic – coming “soon” Output Card: 8 Form C Relay outputs – Designed to plug into the processor header – Can be plugged into a Comm Card that is plugged into the processor header

Auxiliary Communication Cards RS422Multimode Fiber

The Silver Network Ring topology simplifies system layout – Minimizes installer error due to incorrectly terminated multi-drop networks Point-to-Point (Complete Data Regeneration at each node) – Necessary due to increased distances between processors Limit of 1.2 Km (3937 ft., 3/4 mile) for copper Limit of 2.2 Km (7218 ft., 1.37 miles) for multimode fiber Data signal is completely regenerated at each processor Redundancy is achieved through the side switching of the Head End – Dual data paths The data path alternates direction between successive polls. Completely new protocol and polling scheme at 57 600 bps

Silver Network – Basic Configuration NIU XField RS-422 or Fiber Optic SNM PC

Silver Network – Allowed Configuration NIU OmniTrax Cables OmniTrax

Silver Network – Snowman Configuration NIU OmniTrax Cables OmniTrax XField RS-422 or Fiber Optic

Silver Network – Allowed Configuration NIU OmniTrax Cables OmniTrax XField RS-422 or Fiber Optic

Silver Network – Not Allowed NIU

Silver Network – Full Redundancy NIU SNM PC NIU SNM PC

Network Interface Unit (NIU) One rack unit high for 19” racks or for desktop 12 VDC or 18 to 56 VDC - 40°C to + 70°C (- 40°F to + 158°F) Reliable connection point from the head end computer to both the A side and B side of the sensor network – Computer side: USB, RS-232 or Ethernet – Sensor side: RS-422 or multimode fiber Completely configurable through a front panel USB connector using the UCM – Can be configured to operate in standalone or redundant mode. – For redundant mode, two NIU are needed – Single Form C relay reports power or communication failure

Silver Repeater Used to extend the communication signal beyond that normally available between processors: – Limit of 1.2 Km (3937 ft., ¼ mile) for copper – Limit of 2.2 Km (7218 ft., 1.37 miles) for multimode fiber Available in three versions: – Copper to copper – to extend the RS-422 network – Fiber to Fiber - to extend the fiber network – Copper to Fiber – for switching between mediums Operating voltage 12 VDC or 18 to 56 VDC as available on the processor input voltage terminals Designed to be mounted on the inside of the processor cover in the same place as the Auxiliary Power Supply (cannot have both) Can be mounted in a separate enclosure with its own battery backup

Universal Configuration Module (UCM) A software application running on a Windows XP Pro computer (usually a laptop) Used to configure and troubleshoot any Silver device directly, including Silver processors and the NIU, by direct connection through a USB port on the device. Can also be installed on the same PC as the Network Manager, where it can configure any device on the Silver Network, but data rates (e.g. for Plot Mode) are much lower. Configuration profiles and diagnostic results can be saved to file. Long term monitoring can be done through a Compact Flash card connection on the processor – Data obtained is in a form (for now) that can be read only by engineering.

Silver Network Manager Silver Network Manager is a software program operating on a Windows XP Pro PC Silver Network Manager Functions – Manages all data traffic (polling, etc.) – Communicates all alarm and status information to the Control and Display program Silver Network Manager Possible Locations – On the same PC as the Control and Display program – On a separate PC communicating with the Control and Display program through RS-232 or TCP/IP Supported Control and Display Software – Presently only StarNeT 1000, Version 3.1 – Possibly third-party systems in the near future through an API

The Silver Family The new generation of products with hardware commonality The new generation of products with a powerful data protocol The new generation of products that simplifies integration with third party Control and Display systems
