HOME LEARNING

What the research shows Homework in primary school has an effect of zero Get it right not get rid of it

The Picture at Raglan Inconsistent Not always linked to learning Not always done Work sheet based No evidence it had any impact

Ofsted Report July 2015 Teachers should set high quality homework tasks which further encourage pupils’ love of learning and deepen their knowledge, skills and thinking

Research into pupils preferences: Pupils dislike being set routine homework tasks ( such as finishing off) which do not contribute to their learning. They prefer interesting, challenging and varied tasks that are clearly defined and have adequate deadlines

Fundamental Five Clear academic purpose Efficiently demonstrates students learning Promotes ownership by offering choices Instills a sense of competence The task is aesthetically pleasing

Half term home learning This half term we would like you to get creative and make a model of a Prehistoric home. You can choose from the Stone Age, Bronze Age or Iron Age. We would like you to use natural materials wherever possible. Below are some examples to help you, although you may have to do some extra research. Have fun! Mrs Beasley and Mrs Dumper
