VACCINATION POLICIES IN THE ARIZONA SCHOOL SYSTEM ENG101 PRESENTED BY: EMERALD WILLOUGHBY

ADDRESSING THE ISSUE  Problem: The rate of unvaccinated children in the Arizona school system is increasing each year, due to the generous amount of exemptions and lax policy reinforcement  “Nearly one in every three kindergarteners who enrolled last year without measles vaccinations were missing exemption forms required by state law.”  Stance: I believe that the children should be required to get all vaccinations before they attend to ensure the safety of their health and the others around them  Reason: I choose this topic because of my major, early childhood education, because researching this could help to be educated in for my future career

EXEMPTIONS AND THE LICENSING PROCESS  The current vaccination policy includes three exemptions:  Medical  Personal  Religious  The FDA, Food and Drug Administration, and the CDC, United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention play a crucial role in the licensing of a vaccine  Each vaccine has been proven to be 90%-99% effective FDA Approval Process CDC Approval Process Creation of Vaccine

SOLUTION: INCREASING OUR VACCINATION RATES IN SCHOOLS  The solution should be very clear. The Arizona school system should make vaccination mandatory, allowing only medical exemptions  Beneficial to students health and safety  Mississippi and Virginia have the highest vaccination rate throughout the school systems due to their strict vaccination policy  99.7% vaccination rate  Policy prevented any outbreaks within schools

WHY PARENTS DISAGREE WITH VACCINATIONS  30% of parents don’t believe that vaccinations should be mandatory because it acts against their freedom of choice  Hazardous side affects  Could be linked to Autism, ADHD, ADD  Natural Immunity is a better alternative than injecting various components into our children's body

CONCLUSION  Vaccinations are a necessary factor in life to prevent harmful diseases and better prepare for the generations to come  “It's not just about your kids," he said, "it's about your social contract, it's about your community."
