{ Islands Of Great Britain and Ireland By: S. Ray

 The united kingdom is made up of four quasi- independent countries, three of which make up Great Britain.  The first being England, It is about the size of New York State making it the largest country of Great Britain.  The second is Wales it is to the southwest in Great Britain.  Finally the last country to occupy Great Britain is Scotland, and it is located in the North of Great Britain. Great Britain

 London is one of the centers of tourism in Great Britain, it is located in England.  The area now called England was first inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Palaeolithic period, but takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England became a unified state in the 10th century, and since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world. England

 Wales is not as familiar as the rest of Great Britain.  Wales is made up of mountains and castles, with strong Celtic influence.  Many residents of North Wales speak Welsh as their first language. Wales

 Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, it has a regal, and medieval ambience.  The Kingdom of Scotland emerged as an independent sovereign state in the Early Middle Ages and continued to exist until By inheritance in 1603, King James VI of Scotland became King of England and King of Ireland, thus forming a personal union of the three kingdoms. Scotland subsequently entered into a political union with England on 1 May 1707 to create the new Kingdom of Great Britain. Scotland

 Ireland is the other country that makes up The United Kingdom.  Politically, Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland, which covers five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, a part of the United Kingdom, which covers the remaining area and is located in the north-east of the island.  The island's geography comprises relatively low- lying mountains surrounding a central plain, with several navigable rivers extending inland. Ireland

 Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the north-east of the island of Ireland. It is variously described as a country, province, or region of the United Kingdom, amongst other terms. Northern Ireland shares a border to the south and west with the Republic of Ireland.  Northern Ireland was created in 1921, when Ireland was partitioned between Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland by an act of the British parliament.
