TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD Standing Committee Purposes Foster, nurture, review and present transportation research; Provide forum for sharing ideas; Networking.

TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD Back to Basics Initiative Provide committees with knowledge and tools to –Identify research needs –Increase probability that needed research will be conducted –Enhance sharing of information on ongoing and completed research

TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD Committee Research Coordinators (CRC) Point person: –Identify or collect research needs; –Collaborate/coordinate with other CRCs; –Coordinate RNS development with attention to –Funding program requirements; –Sponsor needs and interests. –Obtain funding.

TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD Strategic Functions I Early Work within the Committee and between Committees: –Shepherd research concepts into draft RNS; –Distribute draft for peer review; –Monitor draft statement editing process; –Upload final RNSs to database.

TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD Strategic Functions II Mid-term External Work: –Identify curious audiences and funding sources; –Identify other committees with similar interests; –Share RNS with funders.

TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD The Role of the Committee Success takes a whole standing committee: –Help develop RNS; –Suggest funding sources; –Follow the conduct of research; –Help to communicate the results; –Find publication/presentation venues; –Sharing elsewhere.

TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD Organizing the Effort Committees adopt different strategies to accomplish this work: –Single volunteer position for all functions; –Break the position into functional components and engage multiple volunteers: Statement coordinator; Communicator –Research subcommittee.
