Elementary School TAG Model 1 day a week pull out Gifted Curriculum Standards “Enrichment” for SS and SC Teacher input, grades, standardized assessments determine what # of “TAG serve” classes a student is recommended for in MS
Model of delivery for Gifted Students Middle School Advanced Curriculum Classes Core Content Common Core/Standards of Excellence ITBS, Teacher rec, RC grades used to place students in an Advanced Class Must maintain 80% or better in the class --assessed each 9 weeks for all students in the course
Teaching Staff of Advanced Classes Currently endorsed gifted teachers have 4 or more Advanced classes (Currently have 20+ in the building) Teachers who are working towards their gifted endorsement (30) 2 or less classes of Advanced Curriculum Eligible teachers had to qualify according to state teacher quality standards to be accepted in the program – Two years to complete the program Fall 2015 – Characteristics of Gifted students Spring 2016 – Strategies for the gifted learner Fall 2016– Assessment Spring 2017 – Portfolio/Practicum Completion
Support for TAG endorsement seeking teachers Mentor/Support Structure Weekly PLC planning meetings Monthly Data Dives with Ida Ward/Data Specialist to ensure students are making appropriate progress Monthly training sessions under Jennifer O.
Why? Teachers at the MS level are required to teach the same content standards rather than different standards like in ES. High quality Professional Learning Communities/share instructional plans, best practices, data reviews Teachers presenting a rigorous curriculum to students has been the expectations for the past 4-5 years For gifted identified students, he/she will be “served” all day rather than during individual content serves
