General Information  Data Mining- process of analyzing data from different perspectives and summarizing it into useful information  Information gathered from data mining can help increase revenue and cut costs.  Allows users to analyze data, categorize data, and find relationships within the data.  Fairly new term, but the technology is not.

General Information  Three major elements  Extract, transform, and load transaction data  Store and manage data  Present the data in a useful format for reporting

Data Mining and Health Care  Purposes  Clinical- compiling data across a group of people/illnesses/characteristics to find patterns to help manage more effectively and increase efficiency.  Financial- data helps to determine where costs can be cut and revenue can be increased  Examples  AHA reporting  DHS survey  ER visits
