Stay Safe Child Safety Scheme The Stay Safe Child Safety Scheme is a discretionary initiative provided by Wrexham County Borough Council in conjunction with the NHS Trust, to provide home safety equipment for families of young children on low income The aim of the scheme is to reduce the number of accidents to children in the home Bids are submitted to the Capital Grants of Wrexham Council for funding for the scheme, and this years allocation of £15,000 was matched by a further £15,000 from the Housing Capital Programme

Stay Safe Child Safety Scheme This scheme has been running successfully for a number of years across all tenures, providing safety equipment and measures to reduce accidents involving children in the home. These measures include safety gates to stairs, fireguards, safety packs which include devices to make the home child friendly, and also fire safety checks to properties

Stay Safe Child Safety Scheme The scheme is only open to all families within the County Borough with at least one child aged between 8 months and 24 months To qualify for the scheme, families must be in receipt of an income related benefit –Income Support –Income Based Job Seekers Allowance –Council Tax Benefit –Family Tax Credit

Stay Safe Child Safety Scheme A maximum of two safety gates and one fireguard are provided free of charge, and these are installed by an approved contractor appointed by Wrexham County Borough Council. The Fire Safety check is carried out by the Fire Service The applicant is responsible for the safe usage of the equipment, and the equipment becomes their responsibility immediately after installation

Stay Safe Child Safety Scheme Stay Safe referrals can only be made by the applicants Health Visitor The referral form must be fully completed by the applicant and Health Visitor, and then fowarded to Housing Services, Ruthin Road for process All benefit details must be verified by the Health Visitor On receipt of the referral form Housing Services will register the application and forward the details to the contractor to arrange installation at the property

Stay Safe Child Safety Scheme In the financial year 2008/2009, 673 safety gates and 210 fireguards were installed to 356 properties throughout the County Borough A Child Safety Pack was also provided to each applicant
