Minnesota Oral Health Coalition Conference November 13, 2015 Collaboration in Action Statewide Data Collection and Reporting Efforts Oral Health program

Establish the case for developing and maintaining statewide data collection and reporting efforts Identify barriers in reporting statewide data on School-Based Sealant Program (SBSP) Seek input in developing a collaborative statewide SBSP data collection system Describe statewide data collection and reporting efforts Objectives Oral Health program

Story Does it sound like our own story?

Questions to Ponder Where does Pew get the numbers for their report? Do we have a data system in Minnesota that reports data to Pew or other federal agencies? If so, who? Did whoever provide these data get the information from all programs across the state?

Why the Example of SBSP?  Evidence-based, cost-effective oral health preventive intervention  National data systems interested in numbers  Large scale work in Minnesota  Statewide data collection system doesn't exist

Are we Interested in a Statewide Data System … that Is publicly available and actionable to guide our public health policy and programs? to provide us timely data for dissemination?

What Is In It For Me? A Rising Tide Floats All Boats

Our Vision Dashboard Integration of Minnesota Oral Health Statistics System

The Definition of Public Health in words of Geoffrey Vickers Public health is the continual redefining of the unacceptable.
