FUNCTION OF FAIRY TALES  Agent of socialization  Bruno Bettelheim, The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning & Importance of Fairy Tales  Help children master the problems of growing up, stimulate imaginations to help deal with fears

INTRODUCTION TO REAL WORLD  There is evil and virtue, good and bad in everything  Difficulties in life are unavoidable, see hero confront evil, and through cleverness or bravery, find a way to triumph  See socially acceptable behaviors before they are old enough to grasp moral issues involved

RING-A-ROUND THE ROSIE  Common American versions include:  Ring-a-round a rosie, A pocket full of posies, Ashes! Ashes! We all fall down.  Common British versions include:  Ring-a-ring o' roses, A pocket full of posies, A-tishoo! A-tishoo! We all fall down.
