ACT College Readiness Progression

What is the ACT?  The ACT is an important test that colleges use to help them make admissions and scholarship decisions.  Students who take EXPLORE are more likely to score higher on the ACT test.

Slide 6 EXPLORE prepares you for the PLAN & ACT. EXPLORE shows strengths and weaknesses in English, mathematics, reading, and science. EXPLORE helps you to search for careers and learn which ones might be right for you. EXPLORE helps in choosing high school courses that will prepare you for college and work. We Take the EXPLORE Because:

What Do Your Scores Mean?

13 1.The two scores directly under English tell you how well you did in these two areas of English: Usage/Mechanics—punctuation, grammar and usage, and sentence structure Rhetorical Skills—your understanding of the use of strategy, organization, and style in writing 2.These scores only range from 1 to 12. Added together they do NOT necessarily equal your English Test score. 3.Your Composite Score is simply the average of your test scores in English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science (rounded to a whole number).

Slide 14 How do you compare? 1.Next to your scores, you'll find the percent of students scoring at or below your score. This shows you how your scores compare to those of students across the country who took EXPLORE. 2.This report shows 59% next to the English score. This means he/she scored as high as or higher than 59% of students who took Explore in the nation AND ALSO 65% “At Coffman Middle School” 3.The bar graph provides a visual to show where you are strongest and weakest.

Slide 15

The Estimated PLAN Composite Score Range is a prediction about how you are likely to score on PLAN if you take the right courses and work hard in those courses. Are You on Track?

Slide 17 Your Estimated PLAN ® Composite Score Range 1.Plan Score Range is Keep in mind that these scores are only estimates, not guarantees. Improving your study habits and taking more challenging courses are likely to improve your PLAN and ACT scores.

Your Reported Needs When you took EXPLORE, you were asked whether or not you needed help in seven different areas. Areas checked on your report are the areas YOU said you needed help with.

19 Student/School Information We receive two copies of the Student Score Report: 1.Student receives one to share with parent 2.One copy will go to LCHS (LHS or SHS)

Slide 21 Your High School Course Plans Compared to Core When your student took EXPLORE, he/she was asked about the courses he planned to take in high school. This section of the Score Report compares those plans to the “core” (minimum) school course recommendations.
