3 Tuberculosis (TB): Key Facts 2 types: “Latent” and “Active” Spread through inhaling tiny droplets from coughs or sneezes of a person with active TB and not on treatment Curable with correct treatment 2013: 8,000 reported cases in the UK 63% people affected born outside the UK

4 Impact on the Individual Active TB: –Chronic cough bringing up blood –Fever –Night sweats –Loss of appetite –Weight loss Latent TB: –People are generally well with no symptoms –Cannot be transmitted to other people. –TB bacteria remains dormant in the body
