QUALIFICATIONS TO HAVE A WORK COPYRIGHTED Must be of sufficient length and fixed in a medium observable by human eye, machine or device

HOW LONG DOES COPYRIGHT LAST Automatically protected from the moment of its creation and normally lasts for a term of the author’s life and 70 years after the author’s death

WHY REGISTER? It shows ownership Other people can’t use your work without your permission

HOW DO YOU REGISTER? Submit a completed application form online with a $35 filing fee

WHAT CAN YOU DO IF SOMEONE BREAKS YOUR COPYRIGHT? First, you should notify them and ask them to stop. Second, you could offer to sell them a license, so they could pay you to use your work. Finally, you could take them to court.

WHAT IS A TRADEMARK? A symbol, word, or words legally registered or established by use as representing a company or product. A copyright protects an original or artistic literary work.
