Trees can: Reduce surface water run off, soil erosion and flow into streams Act as a “green leaky dam”, slowing water speeds and thereby reducing peak flows and helping mitigate against flooding. Reduce manure and fertiliser run off thereby improving water quality. This can be particularly important in Nitrogen Vulnerable Zones (NVZ).
