Wild in Pennsylvania White-Tailed Deer By Danielle Meals

Introduction Can you imagine if you could leap place to place? If you were a deer you could do that. Read on to find out more about deer.

What is a deer? A deer is a mammal. A deer is an animal with four legs.

Where do deer live? A deer could live in a meadow. A deer could live in a woodland. A deer could live in a pond (wetland).

What do deer look like? They are white and brown. Under their tails is white. Deer have pointed ears. The antlers on the male are forked inward.

What are behaviors of a deer? A small group of deer is called a herd. Deer spend most of their time eating plants and leaves.

What do deer eat and how do they hunt ? Deer eat leaves, grass, bark, and acorns. Deer eat berries. Deer don’t hunt because they eat plants.

What predators do deer have and how do they protect themselves? A newborn protects itself by laying on the ground. Predators of deer are men, foxes and coyotes. An adult protects itself with the long antlers.

What are some interesting facts about deer? A male White-Tailed deer can weigh up to 400 pounds. A female can weigh up to 200 pounds.
