Animal Adaptations ADAPTATION: An Action or body part that helps an animal survive. Click on an animal

In the summer, the brown fur of the snowshoe hare blends in with the ground. In the winter, the white fur of the snowshoe hare blends in with the snow “I protect myself by blending in with my environment. This is called camouflage!” BACK

The Monarch Butterfly is poisonous. The viceroy looks just like the monarch yet the viceroy is not poisonous. Predators leave the harmless viceroy butterfly alone thinking it is the dangerous Monarch. “I use mimicry to protect myself against predators!”

BACK A turtle has a hard shell to protect it from predators. “My protection travels with me wherever I go!”

BACK The Prairie Dog is able to create its own shelter by digging an underground tunnel system. The underground burrows help protect the Prairie Dog against predators on the open prairie. “I hide from my predators underground. There are no trees on the prairie to shelter me!”
