 Everyone one must write a letter advising a classmate how to quit smoking.  Most students will use paragraphs, subheadings and bullet points.  Some students will also use a wide range of vocabulary (key phrases) in their letter.

Advise Paragraphs Sub-headings Bullet points Connectives Second person

To offer an opinion To offer help To recommend To guide To convince To make someone believe you To get the customer to buy something ?

 Ideas must be ordered in paragraphs. You use a new paragraph for a new sentence.  You may use bullet points or subheadings.  Use connectives to join sentences.  Give examples and be as detailed as you can.  Use the second person ‘you’.  Set a friendly tone.

I thought you would like some help with raising money for the RSPCA.I think you should make sure you have an event that works, like a sponsored walk or selling food to the staff at break time. I would like a non- uniform day. You can charge people not to wear school uniform, also the teachers have to wear uniform. You should get your form tutor to help you. Give all the money you raise to the school office, so it doesn’t get lost or stolen. Does this piece of writing use paragraphs, sub-headings, connectives, second person?  8h2 want to put on an event to raise money for the an animal charity. You did this last year in year 8. Write a letter advising them how best to achieve this.

To 8f2, We heard you are planning to raise money for the RSPCA. That’s a great idea! We planned a fundraiser when we were in year 8 and thought you might like some advice. Introduce your purpose Set a friendly tone from the start

An event that works Firstly, you need to get as many people as possible to give money, so think about an event that includes the whole school, staff as well, and maybe even the parents. Last year, we sold sandwiches, pizza and cakes at break time from the school canteen. Lots of people came and bought food, including some of our parents. In addition, you could also think about:  a non uniform day  collections in assembly  a sponsored event Use paragraphs Use subheadings Use bullet points Use connectives

Once you have raised the money, you won’t want to loose it! Last year, we asked our form tutor to be in charge of collecting it. You will have to ask nicely! They will need a list of all the people who collected money so they can be crossed off once they have given it in. The school will write a cheque to your charity once all the money is collected. Good luck with it. We had really good fun last year when we did our cake sale and raised £200! Use the second person
