Chemistry PODs 73-77

POD #73 11/30/2015 Write your first and last name and today’s date in the upper right hand corner of your paper. Fold your paper into fourths. Be sure to number and date each POD. 1. Draw a Lewis structure for NH 3. What is this molecules geometry? 2.What is the molecular geometry for a molecule that has four bonding pairs and no lone pairs?

POD #74 12/1/2015 Make sure that your PODs are numbered and dated. 1.Hydrogen is in group one of the periodic table. What are group one elements called? Is hydrogen in this group? If not, what group does hydrogen belong to? 2.When a metal and a nonmetal react, which one tends to gain electrons and which ones loses electrons?

POD #75 12/2/2015 Make sure that your PODs are numbered and dated. 1.After adding up all valence electrons for each atom in a molecule, you draw out a skeletal structure showing how all of the atoms are connected. List the next three steps for drawing a Lewis structure (see page 165). 2.What does the octet rule state (see page 125)? Why do atoms want an octet? Which two elements form a duet (only need two electrons to have a full valence shell) instead of an octet?

POD #76 12/3/2015 Make sure that your PODs are numbered and dated. 1.Draw the Lewis structure for BH 3. 2.What problem did you come across when drawing the structure above?

POD #77 12/4/2015 Make sure that your PODs are numbered and dated. 1.Why would an atom like boron form a coordinate covalent bond with another atom? 2.Why do atoms like phosphorus and sulfur have expanded octets?
