Why an SOE? Common environment Standard base image across Region Reduce support requirements Consistency across region Existing solutions implemented meeting school requirements Common environment Standard base image across Region Reduce support requirements Consistency across region Existing solutions implemented meeting school requirements

Requirements of SOE Teaching and Learning Support The SOE must be aligned with the teaching and learning objectives of DET. That is, the SOE must ensure support for educational activities that rely on ICT services delivered through desktop equipment. Operational Stability and Predictability The SOE must, as far as possible, provide a stable and predictable environment for users of the network. Elements included in the SOE must be selected and tested against both operational requirements and known threats to network and machine performance. Manageability The SOE must conform to current and future methods of deployment, support and management of the desktop fleet and of network resources as a whole. Compliance The SOE must conform to enterprise licensing arrangements for standard software, and must, as far as possible, prevent unauthorised use of DET network resources. Extensibility The SOE must support local installation of additional software components and necessary local configuration changes. It must also support the progressive incorporation of new elements.
