The river Mississippi is in north America it also flows through many states such as, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana. The Mississippi starts at Missouri and ends in The Gulf Of Mexico. It is more then half of U.S.A.

The river Mississippi is the 4 th largest river in the world, measuring up to 3,870 miles. Including the river Missouri, it flows from its source in to Lake Itasca, to The Gulf Of Mexico. It is the largest river in U.S.A. There is 800 rivers in the U.S and 23 significant rivers.

The river Mississippi is very famous for its wildlife including, 241 species of fish 37 species of mussel 45 amphibians 50 mammals And 40% of birds.

The first European to see the Mississippi River was Hernando de Soto, in Another French explorer, René-Robert Cavelier, sailed down the river to its delta in Also Hernando was a Spanish man and was very famous for concurring the Mississippi.

The river Mississippi is very much polluted being caused by factories e.g. chemicals. It effects the river Mississippi by killing over 1 million animals every 2 years. Most of the life's being lost is because, the fish breathe in the water which is polluted and possibly diseased. Causing deaths.

In 1927 there was a very famous flood called The Great Mississippi flood. And this is how it happened. Rain caused flooding which overtook the levees causing the Mounds Landing to break with more than double the water volume of Niagara Falls. The Mississippi broke out of and flooded 27,000 square miles (70,000 km2). This water flooded an area 50 miles wide and more than 100 miles long. The area was a depth of 30 feet. The flood killed 246 people.

The river Mississippi at it’s widest point is over 11 km wide. It is the largest river in the USA and in North America. Also it’s the 4 th largest river in the world. Martin Strel, a Slovenian swimmer who is famous for swimming the length of entire rivers completed, the Mississippi over 68 days in 2002
