Diversity and Multiculturalism 3 rd grade by Tamar Kadagishvili

The very hungry Caterpillar

Aim: Teaching new vocabulary from the illustrated book. SWBAT make predictions about the story from looking at pictures. The analysis of the pictures will help students understand the meaning of the text.

Warm up activities Students were interested in the pictures.They wanted to know why there were holes in the page? Students enjoyed saying the words in the text in unison with teacher. They described pictures with pleaser.

Students make word list according this picture

Pear reading Students were reading in pairs and translating it according the pictures.

After reading activity Give students different copies of pictures and ask them to write description of them and colored in groups.

Assessment Students make presentation of their works and stick filled and colored pictures on the board.

Which reading and writing strategies were used? Picture analysis. Choral drilling. Predicting from pictures. Reading the text 3 times in different ways. Re- assembling the text on the board.

What have the students learned? How to make presentation in groups (one of them draws, another colors,other fills the gap and the leader presents the work).

What have I learned? Using illustrated books, flashcards and pictures are very effective for elementary learners, because it encourages students’ motivation. Using such kind of activities are more convenient for kinesthetic, auditory and visual learners.
