BHT private Rented Sector Initiatives Background BHT is an independent housing trust based in Brighton and Hove but operating across East Sussex BHT is primarily concerned with single homelessness BHT has worked closely with the PRS for many years as this is the only available source of accommodation for many of our clients

BHT Private Rented Sector Initiatives  The Private Rented Sector team of 4 are based at BHT Legal Advice Centre  The PRS team provide 3 services:  Firm Foundations  Studio Flat Leasing Scheme  Services for landlords

BHT Private Rented Sector Initiatives Accessing the PRS  The PRS market in Brighton and Hove is very competitive  At BHT we recognise the landlord concerns when they let a property  We provide clients with the knowledge and skills to address landlord concerns  We provide clients with the skills to negotiate and ‘sell’ themselves

BHT Private Rented Sector Initiatives  Sustaining PRS Tenancies  PRS is suitable for clients who are capable of independently managing a tenancy with or without support  Tenancies fail because of arrears or chaotic tenant behaviour  We provide practical advice, guidance and services for both the tenant and the landlord  The key is to understand the needs of both the tenant and landlord - no two situations are the same
