Physical Change  Physical change is a change that occurs that does not change the identity of the substance  A change in which matter looks different.
Mass, color, volume, and weight are examples of physical properties. A physical property can be observed or measured without changing the substance. Example:
Chemical or Physical Change?. Cutting paper? Chemical Change Creates a new substance Cannot be reversed New substance formed has new properties.

Chemical Properties and Chemical Changes. Chemical Changes A chemical change results in a new substance (or new substances) being produced - as a result.
Chemical and Physical Changes Physical Changes Only changes physical properties, does not become a new substance (usually reversible). Only changes physical.

 A physical change alters the form of a substance, but does not change it to another substance. Example: Squeezing the juice from an orange

 When a substance undergoes a chemical change, it is changed into a different substance with different properties. Example: Baking a Cake

1. Color Change 2. Precipitate Forms (the solid formed from a solution during a chemical reaction)

3. Gas Produced 4. Temperature Change

5. Changes in Characteristic Properties (odor, light given off)
