IS SPENDING ON EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY JUSTIFIED? Julia Fullwood EDAD 684 April 23, 2011

If technology is integrated in such a way as to foster engaged learning and develop essential skills that help students become effective global citizens than it is being used effectively.

YES

Why We Need To Teach Technology In School

The Numbers  by the time that these learners are twenty-one years old “they will have spent 10,000 hours playing video games, sent 200,000 s, watches 20,000 hours of television, spent 10,000 hours on a cell phone, but less than 5,00 hours reading.  roughly 21 million youth between the ages of 12 through 17—approximately 87 percent of the entire age bracket—use the Internet. Of those 21 million online teens, 78 percent (about 16 million students) say they use the Internet at school

 most teens believe that the Internet helps them do better in school (86 percent of teens, 88 percent of online teens)  Three-quarters of online teens use instant messaging, representing close to 16 million youth. Of those 16 million, 78 percent say they use instant messaging from time to time to talk about homework, tests, or schoolwork

The Partnership for 21st Century Skills has developed a unified, collective vision for 21st century learning that can be used to strengthen American education. They have developed this graphic representation.
