Japn 314 Japanese Literature in Translation

 Over the course of the semester, students come to see the relationship between  Reading the text  Responding to and Interpreting it  Discussing it in class  Writing about it

 That students appreciate the challenges involved in textual interpretation and  Develop strategies for reading and interpreting in meaningful ways

 Texts embody cultural values and  Are products of their time and place  Students should be open and receptive to the material we are reading in the class and  Have moments of “passionate engagement” with these texts.

 To teach is to create a space in which the community of truth is practiced” and  “[In this community of Truth there is the opportunity for] an eternal conversation about things that matter, conducted with passion and discipline”
