Mrs. Witzel’s Top Ten Test Taking Tips

#10 Bring all the supplies necessary –pencils, highlighters, eraser

#9 Skim the test over –Help reduce anxiety –Allows you to budget time if time is a factor

#8 Read DIRECTIONS –Don’t assume you know exactly what to do

#7 Read title, and questions first –Read the passage AT LEAST ONCE, if you don’t have a time limit then read it 2 times.

#6 Go back to find your answers. –The reading test is almost like an OPEN book test. Use this to your advantage. –REMEMBER that you may need to use what you already know AND the text to find an answer Please use me!

#5 Always read the entire question –Don’t rush! Read it slowly and be sure you are actually answering the question Number the parts of the question, so you don’t forget to answer all the parts

#4 If you have time left when you are finished, look over your test. –Make sure that you have answered all the questions, only change an answer if you misread or misinterpreted the question because the first answer that you put is usually the correct one. –Watch out for careless mistakes and proofread your essay and/or short answer questions.

#3 Brainstorm, outline and proofread your essay question –Whisper read your essay to yourself –Number the parts of the question to ensure you answer the entire question –Go back to the text to support your answer

#2 Don’t worry about others finishing before you finish –Focus on YOU and your progress

#1 ATTITUDE –You need to make the decision to remain positive and motivated. –You need to care.
