Albagaia Background Albagaia is a British environmental technology company Specialists in the environmentally sound destruction of micro- organisms and toxic organic compounds using photocatalysis Albagaia holds patents for these photocatalytic processes which convert toxic organic compounds to their harmless constituent parts. Titania (TiO 2 ) is used as the catalyst. UV light (UVA adequate) as the energy source. All organic compounds converted to CO 2, H 2 O, H and mineral salts by powerful oxidation, primarily hydroxyl radicals derived from water.  These processes have been tested and proved fully effective (99.998%) on chemical agents (details available) and highly effective on active pharmaceutical ingredients.  By extension Albagaia processes can be used to –treat waste water –to provide contaminant free water to meet domestic and industrial requirements. Successful tests on β-estradiol substantiate this. Reaction very safe - proceeds at ambient temperature, atmospheric pressure and is non toxic.

Proposal for water purification research Albagaia wish to work on the commercial development of the water treatment capability Possible applications include: Safe and chemical free treatment of domestic water supplies. Capable of destroying common organic hazards –Bacteria and viruses (probably effective on prions) –Toxic organic compounds Herbicides; Estrogens and other endocrine interfering chemicals; Trace industrial chemical wastes (pharmaceutical ingredients etc.) Chemical free treatment of swimming pools and spas –reducing asthma inducing chemical exposure Contaminated water in developing countries at household level. –Large scale also possible Environmentally sensitive outfall waste treatment. e.g. ballast water and sewage.
