RECOGNIZE WAYS TO CONTROL COMFORT THROUGH AIR 8.01

Air Purifiers  Device that removes mold, bacteria, dust, odors, and other pollutants from the air  Reduces inside air pollution

Dehumidifiers  An appliance that removes excess moisture therefore helping to eliminate mold growth.  Draws moisture out of the air

Humidifier  An appliance used in the home to add moisture into the air  The function of a humidifier is to put moisture in the air.

Smoke Detectors  Small device that sounds a loud warning signal if a fire starts  Inexpensive  Batteries should be checked every 6 months to a year  At least one on each floor, near bedrooms

Fire Extinguishers  Classified according to the type of burning material on which they should be used.

P Pull the Pin at the top of the extinguisher. The pin releases a locking mechanism and will allow you to discharge the extinguisher. Aim at the base of the fire, not the flames. This is important - in order to put out the fire, you must extinguish the fuel. Squeeze the lever slowly. This will release the extinguishing agent in the extinguisher. If the handle is released, the discharge will stop.

Sweep from side to side. Using a sweeping motion, move the fire extinguisher back and forth until the fire is completely out. Operate the extinguisher from a safe distance, several feet away, and then move towards the fire once it starts to diminish. Be sure to read the instructions on your fire extinguisher - different fire extinguishers recommend operating them from different distances. Remember: Aim at the base of the fire, not at the flames!!!!

Alarm Systems  Typical system has window and door sensors.  The sensors trigger an alarm when someone forces open a door or window

Biometrics  In information technology, biometrics refers to technologies that measure and analyze human body characteristics, such as fingerprints, eye retinas and irises, voice patterns, facial patterns and hand measurements, for authentication purposes. authentication

Touch-Pad  Works with biometrics for an alarm system  Touching finger to a touch pad to identify oneself.

Door Viewer  Piece of hardware installed in a small hole in the door and allows you to see who is on the other side of the door.
