Today’s Activity: Penny Lab Steps for the Penny Lab: 1.Get with a partner and decide who will pretend to be “mom” and who will pretend to be “dad.” Write it on your paper. 2.“Dad” needs to flip his coin one time to determine the gender of your child. (Heads for a boy, tails for a girl.) Write it on your paper. 3.For each of the traits listed on your handout, flip your coin to decide what gene you give your offspring. Use the paper provided to know what the traits look like. *Heads is the dominant gene, tails is the recessive gene!* 4.Write the gene that “mom” gives and the gene “dad” gives on your chart. 5.Put the two genes (letters) together to determine the genotype and phenotype of the offspring. **Remember, genotype will be two letters and the phenotype will be what it looks like** 6.Complete the analysis section of the lab on the back of the handout. When finished, draw your baby’s face. 7.Turn it in to your class tray at the end of class! This is a grade! Small Group CHAMPS PG 78
