1b When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. ~I Corinthians 2

4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. ~I Corinthians 2

12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. ~I Corinthians 12

15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. ~I Corinthians 12

17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? ~I Corinthians 12

20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body. 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. ~I Corinthians 12

24b But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. ~I Corinthians 12

“Replantation” surgery???

If you belong to Christ, you belong to a body!

Jealousy about spiritual gifts (and roles and responsibilities) is going to be a major issue in the Church…

So, God’s gifting process becomes the excuse for “the kid who quits the team because he can’t play quarterback.”

Self-imposed “unemployment” is terribly frustrating (because deep down, you know you could do something if you just humbled yourself.)

The most painful form of spiritual invalidation comes as a result of our “protest driven” inactivity.

In the Ekklesia those who can’t “contribute” make their contribution by constantly forcing those who can to re- examine their value system.

24b But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. ~I Corinthians 12

Nobody but you can make you a part of the body!.

Nobody but you can make you a part of the body! (So don’t wait on someone else to convince you to take the field…).

The greatest cause of Spiritual exhaustion isn’t burn out, it’s disconnection (rust out.)

Protecting yourself (from connection with others) never protects you… It only exposes you to the terrible vacuum of spiritual meaninglessness…

When you use your gifts to serve the other parts of the body you experience belonging. When you use your gifts to get the other parts of the body to serve you, you experience disillusionment and alienation.

If you live by human compliment you die by human criticism.
