Castle / Kahuku Complex Area Support Team (CK CAST) Phase I Professional Development

Objectives What do we want to accomplish today?  Deepen our understanding of the Priority Strategy Areas  Become familiar with the Continuums used for Quarterly Field Assessment  Further understand the documentation process of the ’14-’15 Academic Plan  Learn how Tripod data can be used to determine next steps for professional growth

6 Priority Strategy Areas

Implementation Continuums (Rubrics) & Field Assessment

Field Assessment Results

Turn to your neighbor Task  Each person explain one way that this data can be used for school improvement  5 minutes until share out

’14-’15 Academic Plan

’14-’15 Academic Planning

Common Understandings Strategy  Mostly defined by the State, also know as Priority Strategies, Priority Areas, Priority Strategy Areas.  Examples: Common Core State Standards, Formative Instruction/ Data Teams, Comprehensive Student Support, etc. *There may be additional strategies determined by the school or Complex Area such as Castle Redesign or Community as Schools, however the majority of priorities a school has can be aligned under the Big 6*

Common Understandings Outcome  How will you know the strategy was implemented successfully. This should be measurable and have a timeline of about a year  Example: Proficiency Levels, 9 th Grade Promotion, Graduation Rate, Closing Achievement Gaps, SLOs, also called lagging indicators

Common Understandings Enabling Activity  The actions that will be taken to reach the Outcome, be specific and avoid combining multiple steps of a larger process.  Example: Create Common Assessments, Design an Attendance Campaign, Implement a Regular Data Team Cycle Which Includes the Use of a Template

Common Understandings Evidence of Progress  How will the ART monitor progress of the Enabling Activity? How will you know the strategy is being implemented successfully? Must consider data availability, design data collection method, and identify a responsible lead.  Example: Attendance Data, Data Team Template Content, Online Reading Program Reports, Math Fluency Results, Discipline Data, Tripod Survey Results, Observation Ratings, also called Leading Indicators

Academic Review Team (ART)

Academic Review Team Purpose: Arrive at a shared view of the School’s progress against Priority Strategy Areas Identify and solve problems that are hindering performance Identify and commit to clear next steps that target school resources toward implementing these solutions.

Academic Review Team Must Answer Are the strategies and activities underway at each school having the expected impact on student achievement? If not, what are we going to do about it?

Why Regular Academic Review Team Routines? ▪ To monitor and understand evidence of progress of enabling activities to attain outcomes aligned with the Priority Strategy Areas ▪ To facilitating dialogue, learning, and action based on that evidence
