CMHS Core-Course Offerings

Grade Point Average Core course calculation: –Calculated the grade point average of your core courses on a scale. Only the best grades from your core courses will be used. The Clearinghouse assigns the following values to each letter grade: A – 4 points C - 2 points A – 4 points C - 2 points B – 3 points D – 1 point B – 3 points D – 1 point Plus or Minus will not be used to calculate your core-course grade-point average.

To be certified by the Clearinghouse, a student must: 1. Graduate from high school. Apply to Clearinghouse in second semester of junior year An eligible athlete will be certified after the completion of their 8 th semester of study.

To be certified by the Clearinghouse, a student must: 2. Earn a grade-point average of at least 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) in a core curriculum of at least 16 core academic courses successfully completed during grades 9 through 12. Only courses that satisfy the NCAA definition of a core course can be used to calculate the NCAA GPA. No special values are allowed for “+” or “-” grades.

To be certified by the Clearinghouse, a student must: 3. Earn a sum of scores of at least 68 on the ACT or a combined score of at least 820 on the SAT on a national test date. The NCAA Clearinghouse has a sliding scale to determine if a student athlete will be eligible for play. The higher the combined scores of Math, English, Science Reasoning, and Reading the lower your core GPA has to be to qualify.

If a student-athlete has a core GPA of 2.0 then they would need a combined score of 86. The aforementioned example, would mean this student needs to score an average of 21.5 points per each of the subsections on the ACT test. Example Student
