 State OSL&P sponsored initiative ◦ Combination of Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS)  Federal fiscal support: ◦ State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG). phonetically “spadig”. ◦ Competitive 5 year grants from US DOE Office of Special Education & Rehabilitation Services (OSERS). ◦ EBISS conceptualized when Oregon submitted SPDG application in 2006.

 Oregon awarded SPDG in 2006 (birth of EBISS).  About 1 million/year for 5 years (fiscal year Oct. 1-Sept. 30).  Projects also funded by 2006 SPDG: scholarships  No cost extension (NCE) of 2006 SPDG granted - end date extended to June 30,  Oregon awarded another SPDG in Sept 2011 funding for additional 5 year cycle ( ).  Focus of 2011 SPDG is somewhat different: Breadth, Depth, CCSS, SLP cohorts.

InstructionBehavior COULDN’T WE JUST SIGN A TRUCE OR SOMETHING ?

Improving classroom & school climate Decreasing reactive management Maximizing academic achievement Improving support for students w/ behavior challenges Consistent responses in all environments PBIS

Essential elements of an RTI approach are: 1.General ed. provides scientific, research- based instruction /interventions. 2.Student progress monitored & measured in response to instruction/interventions. 3.Measures of student progress shape instruction and provide info to make educational decisions. Response to Intervention:

PBISOrRTI The relationship between the initiatives: Red & Blue = Purple EBISS

 Formula used to determine $ amounts EBISS districts received.  Formula based on district size & travel distance.  No cost extension funds for the academic year were distributed without use of formula.  2006 extension funds for academic year totaled ~$8,200.  Last extension funds will require deliverable submission before last 10% of award can be claimed..

2011 funds:  haven’t yet been awarded,  will support travel to NW Regional E meeting on May 24, 2012,  will be awarded based on district goals, needs and self assessment,  will require submission of data deliverables before last amount can be claimed.
