What is Defense Mine Action? March 5,  Previously, Ethiopian mine action was responsible for mine clearance, survey and MRE  But, as mines within the reach of the civilian mine action were finalized, the mine action was dissolved by decree  Now the responsibility of the civilian mine action is transferred to MOND of combat Engineering

….continued  This responsibility includes the clearance of the remaining inaccessible minefields and Compliance to the Anti- personnel mine ban convention (APMBC) March 5,

….continued March 5,  As responsible for the remaining jobs to meet the APMBC, the MOND took some measures  Most Assets from the previous mine action has been transferred  A significant numbers of de-miners and a training center were also transferred  Overall,almost all capacity have been transferred

So far what action has been done? 5  The Combat engineering of Defense is preparing it self to deploy to the Eastern region of the country to Engage in Survey and clearance.  In order to engage itself, it is in the process of reorganizing its units

….continued  A number of de-miners in two rounds were deployed to Sudan Abyie for the peace keeping operations and,  Also we are preparing third round de-miners to deploy to Sudan Abyie  These units are coming with recognized skills and we hope to do better in our remote region for survey and clearance March 5,

What do wee need to meet our goals? 7  We have inherited capacity from The previous mine action and therefore we will be able to do the remaining job  Also, Ethiopia is keen in meeting its goals  But, as all capacities and every personnel was not transferred

….continued  we will need to fill some of the remaining gaps which includes  Training,  Equipment (Replacement of old Technical equipments) and  Financial support  If we are able to get support in filling our gaps, we will adhere to our deadline. 3 February
