CUBE-A: Cuban Embargo Act Committee #4 Foreign Affairs

The Problem and Policy Since the Cold War the U.S. has had an embargo against Cuba. The embargo damages the American economy. Cubans are also faced by abject poverty. Cuba must guarantee the United States a fair and open marketplace, in return the U.S. will provide humanitarian aid. The aid will secure the future of the newly formed economy.

Supporting Arguments and Evidence Lifting the Embargo will restore American citizens their rights. -57% of Americans think the ban should be lifted (Angus). Lifting the Embargo would improve the lives of Cuban Children. - Bradfrod challenges future scholars to consider how children have been employed in the service of adult politics (Muse).

Supporting Arguments and Evidence Lifting the Cuban embargo would lead to less cyber attacks. - Cuba has the potential to use "information warfare or computer network attack," enabling the country "to disrupt our access or flow of forces to the region”.(USA Today) Lifting the embargo will in fact help the economy. -Removing the agricultural restriction on exports to Cuba would create as many 6,000 jobs in the U.S. (Debate.org)

Supporting Arguments and Evidence Lifting the Embargo would improve America’s reputation. - April of 1994, the United States began to give aid to South Africa. Ever since the United States began giving aid to South Africa, its economy has improved immensely. (George)
