On S1Global Writeup S1G Writeup Meeting Nobu Toge 1

History 2011/1 : Internal discussion at KEK.. Need for a write-up, need for a workshop (assessment / postmortem of S1G) LC Regular Mtg – writeup outline (Toge) – discussion of members from INFN/Milano, DESY, FNAL and KEK – Agreed to assign contact persons (progress halted due to 311 EQ) 2011/6/20: Proposal (Toge) to re-activate the effort 2

On S1Global Write-up Motivation S1Global exp concludes in Feb Usefulness / worth is noted of “a project-level write-up” on the overall results, accomplishments and remaining research subjects. That is, besides individual publications, papers and talks. Outline (prelim. Need inputs!) 1.Intro: Motivations, purposes 2.Overview: Facility + equipment, study topics, job sharing 3.HW details; Cavities, couplers, tuners 4.HW details: CM 5.HW details: Cryogenics 6.HW details: RF sources, WG, LLRF controls 7.Results: single-cavity operations 8.Results: cavity-string operations 9.Results: CM operation 10.Results: DRFS operation 11.Summary: Accomplishments, Remaining topics A. Project history chart References Example: STF Phase-1 report from KEK (Japanese): 3compressed.pdf (16MB) 3compressed.pdf BTW: Do we want a NIM paper or a lab report? How to proceed Prep at KEK (this slide) Approach collab institutes and agree on Need + value of a write-up. Contact persons. Scope, scale, TOC of the write-up. Task sharing Do the actual writing + editing. Schedule: How about something electro-sharable in Fall, 2011?  Discussion at, for instance TTC in Beijing  Follow-up work  Publication in early 2012 (?) N.Toge Rev Material Meeting presentations compiled at and

Status 2011/7 Editorial Group / Contact persons – Rocco Paparella (INFN) – Jim Kerby (FNAL) – Wolf-Dietrich Moeller (DESY) – Nobu Toge (KEK) – Chief Editor – Akira Yamamoto (GDE Contact) Materials from past webex meetings – “S1-Global Experiment, Materials Presented at …” under 4

Basic Policies (draft) Report #: KEK report # and GDE report #. Most likely FNAL, INFN #s, too. Akira is the GDE contact during this authoring process. This is a technical report on what we did and learned at S1G. – Not a report to assess our future prospects for detailed engineering of ILC. – If someone wants to analyze such issues, this report gives technical contents that can be provided from the standpoint of S1G experience. On technical statements and conclusions: – All who participated in the S1G can / should participate in discussion on equal footing. – Actual editorial process would be managed by the editorial G. Toge is the chief editor (  someone to complain to if something is wrong). 5

Schedule (draft) Basically – something electro-sharable in Fall, 2011?  – Discussion at, for instance TTC in Beijing  – Follow-up work  – Publication in early 2012 (?) More specifically – July Form the editorial group. Draft the rough outline of the report. Assign writing duties – Aug Develop the detailed outline and draft conclusions. Some interactions – Sep Writing, prepare figures, illustrations etc – Oct Editor-Author interactions – Nov First round of editorial assembly  Draft Document – Dec Discussion, for instance, at the TTC meeting in Beijing Follow-up – Jan Finalization + publication, mostly electronically, but also possibly in paper. … if we can agree ; can you? 6

Relation with TTC in Beijing (Dec. Session Report S1G results, if they are considered fit. Q&A as found adequate In Beijing but separated from TTC Plans on follow-up activities after Dec Final editorial process of the S1G writeup. Important A.Yamamoto (GDE PM) has talked to O.Napoly (TTC Chair) in May – June, and they have agreed concerning the outline, in principle. Need to organize S1G presentation and the time slots needed Estimate  TTC EC The sooner the better 7

Open issues Assignment of outlining job  this we need to quickly resolve Is this going to be lab reports or be a NIM paper, for instance? Any others? 8 1.Intro: Motivations, purposes 2.Overview: Facility + equipment, study topics, job sharing 3.HW details; Cavities, couplers, tuners 4.HW details: CM 5.HW details: Cryogenics 6.HW details: RF sources, WG, LLRF controls 7.Results: single-cavity operations 8.Results: cavity-string operations 9.Results: CM operation 10.Results: DRFS operation 11.Summary: Accomplishments, Remaining topics A.
