Of mice and men and trillium: cascading effects of forest fragmentation Ecological Applications (5):
Can timber harvesting influence survival of Trillium populations? Population density of Trillium in clearcuts and along forest edges similar to density reported for the study area in 1949, prior to initiation of timber harvesting. However, the age of individual plants growing in the clearcuts were found to exceed the age of the clearcut. This indicates that no recruitment has occurred since the site was logged. Trillium plants growing in the clearcuts and along forest edges produce lots of seed each year. Why no recruitment?
