BASIC LIFE REQUIREMENTS Finding out what helps certain organisms to survive.

Life Requirements n All of the creatures of life need certain things to help them to live. n We need: food, air, water, minerals, sunlight, space, and habitat.

n The need for food is one of the most important aspects in life. We, as humans, need good food to grow strong and healthy.

n We also need air in which to breathe. Without air, we would not be able to survive.

n Water comes next. Our bodies are made up of 60% water. We lose water continuously during each day and need to take in as much as we lose. We need water to keep our bodies clean.

n Minerals are important for our bodies as well as water. Minerals are elements that are needed to create specific molecules to strengthen our teeth and to help oxygen to get to different parts of our bodies.

n Sunlight comes next! Our bodies need lots of food that is nourished by the sunlight. We eat the plants that get their energy through the sun in a process called photosynthesis.

n The human body needs plenty of space in which to grow. This includes maintaining enough nutrition to feed and strengthen our bodies...

n …And it also includes a place for us to live in! The space that we call home.

n Every organism needs certain basic requirements to survive: food, air, minerals, sunlight, space, and habitat. n Can you think of other organisms that we have studied and figure out where they get these basic needs? (Hint: frogs, butterflies, birds, and cells)
