Inside the Case –Opening the PC and cleaning it, helps it cool down more efficiently –Vents, fans, and the case should be wiped off with a slightly damp cloth –Any stray dust should be vacuumed, along with heat sinks Cleaning Physical Elements

Peripherals –Track Ball Mouse Open ball casing and wipe out any debris –Optical Mouse Simply wipe off the eye –Keyboard Clean by air dusting, or try shaking out any debris as a last resort you can pop off the keys to clean underneath –Monitor Should be wiped off with a cloth & glass cleaner and its vents should be clean Cleaning Physical Elements

Make Sure Power & IDE Cables Are Connected Properly Make Sure PCI & AGP Cards Are Seated Properly –If needed you can clean the card connectors with an alcohol wipe While Inside The Case

Cleaning Data Elements Unused Programs –Uninstall any programs that aren’t used or crucial to the system to free up Hard Drive space Defragment Hard Drives –Defragmenting cleans and reorganizes files on your Hard Drive increases efficiency

Cleaning Data Elements Temp Files & Cache –Run Disk Cleanup and delete old System Restore points 1-3 times monthly –Empty Recycling Bin and the trash bin in Outlook Internet Explorer –Delete cookies, history, & temporary internet files; this helps with privacy and frees up added space

Cleaning Data Elements –3 rd Party Browsers may have specific ways of deleting their own temporary files

Automatic Cleaning Scheduled Tasks –Included with windows –A great way to automatically accomplish tasks –Run tasks when PC is idle or tasks can “wake up” PC

Staying Up-to-date Things to Update –Programs, & Drivers –Firewall, Ad/Spyware, & Virus Software –Windows Update –Scheduled Tasks
