2 Objectives  Identify problems that can occur if hardware is not properly maintained.  Identify routine maintenance that can be performed by users.  Identify maintenance that should be performed by experienced professionals.

3 Maintenance issues  The unprotected cables are a safety hazard  If there is not a good maintenance your computer will be slower.

4 Hardware Maintenance  You need to clean your computer every 3-6 months.  To cut down on your computer repair’s is to preventative maintenance performed regular schedule.

5 Keyboard & mouse  You should clean keyboard periodically.  Dirt dust hair and food will cause the keys to get stuck.

6 Printers  Cleaning the printers helps the printers life.  Inkjet and laser are two popular types of printers.  Never spray an aerosol onto the printer.

7 Computer memory  To measure a computer’s power is by capacity.  RAM is made up of small memory chips that form a memory module.

8 Preventaive Maintenance  All computer slow down as you add delete files.  Install and uninstall software and perform normal activities.  To eliminate and minimize windows come with a set of special functions.

9 Disk defragmentation  When you use your computer and you add and delete filed on your computer’s hard disk.  As the drive begins to become cluttered and spaced becomes limited.

10 Recycle bin  The recycle bin is a holding area for files.  You can access the recycle bin through an icon located on the desk top.

11 Temporary Files  Various application programs such as those in the Microsoft office suite create temporary files.  To free memory for others programs  To act as a safety net to prevent data loss  For printing.

12 Cookies  Cookies are a small text file that a web site uses to identify a specific computer.  The file is created or updated on your computer.  The cookies are not a threat to your computer’s security.

13 Specialized Maintenance  You can provide routine Maintenance as discussed in a lesson.  Replacing the power supply

14 Risk of networked computing  Security of a computer network is challenged every day.  Computer hackers and viruses represent a great risk to the network.
