Federal Work-Study The federal work-study program provides a method for postsecondary education. Program based on financial need and students must be accepted into the program to qualify. Many different types of jobs that qualify for the program. Receiving at least federal minimum wage for the duration of their employment. The program encourages community service work and work related to the recipient’s course of study.

Applying The students who wishes to apply for the FWS must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid Must include an interest in the application Students need to apply for a job in their school The students who apply for the FWS may be employed by many number including – federal, state or local agency – Private organization – The institution itself – If eligible the amount of the FWS award will be listed in the FAFSA award

Important Facts Each institution has their own deadlines It is important like the FAFSA so apply as soon as possible The funds are limited The funds are given in a first come first serve program The amount of aid that you may receive depends on the amount of assistance being receive

How the FWS Program Works It gives to institutions to provide Part-time work opportunities for students involved in certain majors. Students can apply for the federal work study program if they have financial need. A Statutory formula is used to help institutions determine the allocations to request. Once funds are allocated to each institution it is up to that school to administrate the funds. Institutions provides a number of different jobs both in their own institution as well as through private employers. If your grade point average slips below a certain amount the college may not allow you to work through the FWS.
